Over the years, we’ve created many pieces at Salient Label. And like any fashion label, not every piece eventually finds its way into someone’s wardrobe.
There are samples from the development process. Pieces that have been altered or shortened specially for customers. Garments with small imperfections that mean we would no longer feel comfortable selling them as new. And sometimes, perfectly beautiful fabric remains on a piece even when the garment itself can no longer serve its original purpose.
For Teachers’ Day this year, we wanted to do something meaningful with them.
Together with K Sisters x Salient Label, and in partnership with DearlyWorn, we’ve given fabrics from various past Salient Label designs another life — this time, as scrunchies.
DearlyWorn focuses on transforming older and unused pieces into something meaningful again, which made this collaboration especially fitting for what we wanted this Teachers’ Day project to represent.
More Than a Scrunchie
If you’re holding one of these scrunchies, you may recognise a print from one of our older collections. You might even have owned the original design.
We love that.
Instead of remaining forgotten in storage, these fabrics get to begin another chapter with you.
Fashion waste doesn’t always start with clothes being deliberately thrown away. Sometimes, it’s the sample sitting untouched for years. The imperfect piece that can’t be sold. The garment hidden at the back of a cupboard because nobody quite knows what to do with it.
Eventually, many of these pieces can end up as textile waste.
Upcycling gives us another option.
It doesn’t undo the resources that went into making the original garment, but it allows us to use what already exists before creating something new.
A Small Teachers’ Day Thank You
Teachers spend so much of their time helping others learn, grow and see things differently. We thought it was particularly meaningful for your Teachers’ Day gift to carry a little lesson of its own.
By accepting and using this upcycled piece, you’re helping us keep existing fabric in use for longer.
So, thank you.
Thank you for giving something old another chance. Thank you for being part of our little effort to reduce unnecessary textile waste. And thank you for allowing a piece of Salient Label’s past to become part of your everyday life.
And if scrunchies simply aren’t your thing, please don’t feel that you have to keep it tucked away in a drawer.
Pass it on.
Give it to a colleague, a friend, a sister, or someone who will wear it. To us, that would be far more meaningful than letting it sit unused.
Because perhaps the most sustainable piece isn’t always something new.
Sometimes, it’s simply something we already have — given a new purpose.

Happy Teachers’ Day, from K Sisters x Salient Label.
