A Little Colour at Your Own Pace

We want to make room for the colour that catches your eye before you decide whether you are the kind of person who wears it.

Perhaps it is a green blouse you pause over while browsing. You like it immediately. Then come the questions. Would it go with anything you own? Would people notice? Would you feel like yourself in it?

We would like to give that first moment of interest a little more time.

It is easy to describe a personal style as though it has already been settled. We wear neutrals. We prefer dark colours. We leave brighter shades to other people. There can be real pleasure in knowing what we like, but we hope those descriptions can stay open to the occasional surprise.

A colour you have never worn can still be one you enjoy. You can be curious about it without deciding what the rest of your wardrobe should become.

If we were starting with one small change, we would keep the shape familiar. Try a coloured top with a neckline you already enjoy, then pair it with trousers you feel comfortable in. Let the shoes and bag be the ones you would normally choose. Give yourself a chance to notice the colour without changing everything around it.

You can also choose how much of it you want to see. A shirt worn beneath an open jacket offers a smaller glimpse. A single-colour top with simple trousers gives it more space. A muted green or blue may appeal to you more than a brighter shade. Your own interest is a useful place to begin.

Three ways to begin with green

Perhaps you’re drawn to the soft side drape of our Valencia top in Camper. Or you might enjoy the sheen and waist sash of our Jean top in Olive Green. For a lighter shade, there’s Orya in Sage, with its gathered high neckline and long sleeves.

We would start with whichever catches your eye, then bring it together with a pair of trousers you already enjoy wearing. Let the colour become familiar at your own pace.

At Salient Label, understated design and versatile styling are part of how we approach clothing. We like the possibilities this creates for the person wearing a piece. You might keep the whole outfit quiet, or let one colour become the detail you enjoy most.

When trying something unfamiliar, we would allow a little time before deciding. Look at the whole outfit, move around, and notice whether you want to keep wearing it. Perhaps it grows on you. Perhaps you prefer something else. Either way, you have learned a little more about your own taste.

We hope getting dressed can hold that kind of freedom: enough confidence to try something, and enough trust in yourself to choose what you actually like.

If you are considering a little colour, explore our tops collection with a favourite pair of trousers in mind. When you choose Salient Label, you support a small Singapore brand. We are grateful for the place you give our clothes in your life.

And if that green blouse still catches your eye, you are allowed to take another look.
